New Year, New Opposition

– #1 –

Welcome to the New Year! 2012 will have plenty to offer; that is, if we let it.

There have been times were I have allowed myself to play the victim of begrudgingly making half-hearted resolutions at the New Year and throughout the year itself. I keep setting goals because I believe that progress is essential to our lives both here and in the here-after. So, why is it so difficult to make and keep even the simplest aspirations of bettering ourselves?

There is opposition in all things. Even Sir Isaac Newton probably didn’t fully understand the ‘gravity’ of his third law of motion. “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.”

That very law is an eternal principle. It isn’t opinion or a debatable subject. It also applies to the intangible world, such as our desires to become better through achieving our goals. Setting goals is an open invitation for opposition in that thing. Whether it is by someone who doesn’t want you to succeed, your own hesitations, or something unseen, there will be a force that contends with your success. So how do we overcome such an inevitable obstacle?

One of the beautiful aspects of this life is that we are all different. We see things through a unique pair of lenses. Therefore, we all take on these challenges and the associated opposition in our own ways.

For me, it’s through my beliefs and my religion that I find strength to overcome that opposing force that stands between me and my ability to succeed. I believe that opposition actually plays an essential role in our ability to progress. Through my beliefs, I try not to look at those never-ending obstacles as bad things, but as leverages to overcome and achieve.

Whatever your goals are this year, I hope you will find great successes in overcoming the challenges you will face!

If you have experienced opposition to a goal you were seeking to accomplish, feel free to share your story with us.
